  Homestead Exemption

In Georgia, homeowners who actually reside in the homes they purchase are eligible for a reduction in their property tax assessment. To qualify for this homestead exemption, you must own and occupy your home as your legal residence and primary domicile. After you apply, the exemption is renewed each year automatically as long as you remain eligible by living in your home.

You must apply for the homestead exemption from the county in which your property is located, and you should know that different Georgia counties have different application requirements. For information on the requirements in your county, please consult the resources below.

*Note that filing periods and contact information may change without notice.
You should contact your county tax office directly for its rules regarding the homestead exemption.
